The Great Britain Britannia Coin Series was first released in 1987 with 1 oz Gold Britannia coins. In 1997, The Royal Mint introduced the 1 oz Silver Britannia as a Proof, followed by a bullion release in 1998. Early bullion silver coins (1998–2012) contained .958 fine silver, while bullion coins minted from 2013 onward contain .999 fine silver.
Today, the series is released annually in multiple sizes of Gold, Platinum, and Silver Britannia coins, including Brilliant Uncirculated and limited-mintage Proof issues.
