The American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States first released November 24, 1986. American Silver eagles are only struck in the one-troy ounce size, which has a face value of one dollar and is guaranteed to contain one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver. The Silver American Eagle coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint from 1986 – 1992. From 1993 – 2000 the coins were minted in the Philadelphia Mint. In 2001 the Silver Eagle production moved to West Point where the minting is still done today. Adolph A. Weinman designed the obverse known as The Walking Liberty and Emily Damstra designed the reverse.
New Added Features to new Silver Eagle:
For the first time in history, the US Mint has created an anti-counterfeit reeded edge for enhanced security. This feature incorporated small gaps within the edge making counterfeits easily detectable. The other new addition are the initials of Adolph Weinman have been added to the Silver Eagle appearing directly under “In God We Trust” motto on the coin’s obverse. This marks the first time Weinman’s initials have been added to the coin. Adolph Weinman is still best remembered as the designer of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar that was struck from 1916 to 1947. This design is now used for the obverse of our beloved American Silver Eagle.
This beautiful American Silver Eagle was certified and graded by NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation). The grade is PF69 (Proof 69 or Near Perfect 69) which means the coin is completely flawless. Ultra Cameo is designated for Proof coins based on their fully frosted design and highly reflective fields on the obverse and reverse, giving it a pleasant visual contrast. NGC is a highly respected grading company and one of the largest in the United States.
