1926 $2.50 Indian Quarter Eagle NGC MS65

This 1926 $2.50 Indian Quarter Eagle has been certified and graded by NGC as MS65. NGC’s encapsulation guarantees the coin's MS65 Condition. The Indian Gold Quarter Eagle occupies a unique place in American numismatic history as the only U.S. circulating coinage series struck entirely with an incuse (recessed) design. Produced during the early 20th century, this distinctive gold issue reflects a period of artistic experimentation and modernization within U.S. coinage.

Designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, the Indian Quarter Eagle departed dramatically from traditional raised-relief designs. Both the obverse and reverse motifs are recessed below the coin’s surface, creating a bold visual style that remains unmatched by any other U.S. gold series. The series was struck from 1908 through 1929, placing it firmly within the revered Pre-1933 U.S. gold era.

Today, Indian Quarter Eagles are widely collected for their innovative design, historical importance, and limited surviving populations. Their compact size, classic gold composition, and unmistakable appearance continue to make them a cornerstone of classic U.S. gold collections.
